Each week I will issue you a weekly grade based on your performance that week. Grading will vary week by week but will include a mix of homework, classwork, quizzes/tests, projects, and participation.
Spanish 1 students will be required to demonstrate proficiency on each of their quizzes and tests. This is based on the theory that language learning is like a building (in that the foundations need to be secure to build upon for each successive unit). This puts student learning and language acquisition/proficiency first.
Proficiency = 80% or more
If you recieve a quiz or test back with a grade lower than an 80, you are required to come to conference within 2 school days of recieving the grade* to review the assessment, impliment a short term study plan of the material, and schedule a re-take of the whole quiz or test.
Once you have earned a grade of 80 or higher, your new grade will be averaged with your original grade. That average will replace your original assessment grade for the week in which it was originally taken.
*For example: If you recieve a quiz grade on Thursday, you have Thursday or Friday to come to conference or otherwise meet with me. If you do not come to conference to review the assessment within 2 days, you will be given a conference cut (20% weekly grade reduction).
___
Late Work and Extension Policy:
Late work will be reduced by 1 letter grade per day late, except when otherwise stated by the assignment. (Ex. A -> A- : B- -> C+)
Extentions for assignments will be granted at the discretion of the teacher. If you wish to request an extension, you must do so 24 hours before the assignment is due. You should not assume you have an extension once you have requested one, but should wait to hear back from me first.
Point Breakdown*:
Tests: 40 points
Projects: 20-30 points
Quizzes: 20 points
Classwork: 10-20 points
Homework: 10-20 points
Participation: 10 points
*Note: Points may change based on the assignment
